北京 2008 年奥运会吉祥物发布暨倒计时1000天活动

Today is the 1000-day countdown to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and there was an evening show in Beijing to mark that day and also to unveil the official 2008 Olympic Games mascots. They just showed the mascots on TV. So cute.
They (also called the Five Friendlies) are:

福娃贝贝 the Fish, 福娃晶晶 the Panda, 福娃欢欢 the Olympic Flame , 福娃迎迎 the Tibetan Antelope and 福娃妮妮 the Swallow.
(贝晶欢迎妮. The pinyin is bei jing huan ying ni = 北京欢迎你 )

My favourite one is 福娃晶晶 the Panda. It was so cute and seemed so ‘blur’ in the short animation they showed.
I’ve just learned that ‘mascot’ is ‘吉祥物’ (ji xiang wu) in Chinese.

Recently, this tragic news has been the talk of many bloggers.
Simon Ng, a 19 years old immigrant from Hong Kong, was murdered not long after his last blog entry and the murderer was caught, all thanks to that blog entry. I hope the murderer gets what he deserves

The murderer, Lin, is Simon’s elder sister’s ex-boyfriend. Failing to find money in the appartment, he set upon Simon and stabbed him repeatedly until he died. When Simon’s sister Sharon returned home, Lin attacked her too. She also died shortly after.

Quote from one of Simon’s blog entries:

Eventhough I am underweight, I am still losing more weight. Gonna become human stickfigure soon, since I am eating one meal a day. No money you know, I can ask my sister for some if I wanted. She usually ask me if I need any, but I declined since she doesn’t make much….

And that guy Lin wanted to rob them. *shakes head* Crazy, heartless guy.

Hundreds of people (up to now, 255 comments) have left their respects in Simon’s last blog entry.

I saw photos of a snake eating a kangaroo on a Mauritian website. My friend Chey posted the pics.
She got the pics from another forum.
Apparently,the snake needs 2 weeks to digest the kangaroo and is particularly vulnerable during that time.

I saw comments about this on other forums and some people seem to find it funny. That’s sick.

I just returned home. I haven’t gone clubbing since last year and yesterday I went clubbing with some friends in Grand Baie. When i woke up at 9am, I heard about the explosion which had happened in Grand Baie at 01:45 . The building where the explosion happened is Grand Baie Store ( a two-storey building housing restaurants, bars and shops) .

My friends and I were in front of a night club at 01:30 and went inside minutes later. We didn’t hear the explosion because of the loud music.

According to the local news,two people died and 15 were injured. Those two persons who died are Jean-Francois Lew and Emmy Ng. They are 25 & 24 years old respectively and were engaged. So young… !
The buildings found near Grand Baie Store were also damaged.
There are a lot of rumours going around about the explosion. Some people are even saying that it was a bomb which caused the explosion. It seems quite unlikely. We’ve never had terrorists attacks in Mauritius.
Other people suspect that the blast has been caused by the explosion of gas cylinders. In fact, the government are hoping that it is something like that and not a deliberate explosion.
We will know the outcome of the investigation in a few days.
