October 12th, 2005Chinese people can be so loud
Des and I took the 123 bus at People’s Square and we made the big mistake of sitting right in front of this couple. They were flirting and then the young woman asked the guy to talk to her in English instead so that they can practise their spoken English and listening ability. The guy was like “No, no, my English is not good at all” (in Chinese) and the woman kept insisting. I tried to block out their voices and the next thing I knew, they had started to sing ‘Yesterday once more’ , a song by The Carpenters. I love that song but WHY did they have to talk and sing so loudly? We were on a bus after all. Did they think that everyone would like their singing and wanted to know what they were talking about? arghhhh.
Des was more annoyed than me and was muttering ” Oh shut up” but they were lost in their own little world.
The worse part was the phone call. The guy’s cellphone rang and he answered promptly, talking so loudly that everyone on the bus could hear. Maybe he was just showing off? He was saying something about a meeting, things work-related, trying to sound like a big boss or something. bah….
Some people talk on the phone like they think the person they are talking to is deaf or something. It really gets to me. I don’t mind the couples making out on the bus, whispering and giggling but I can’t stand loud people. They want to talk? Fine. In a normal tone of voice please.
