July 20th, 2009Crab, fish and prawns on a Sunday night
Lisa’s friend Jeff came over for dinner last night and Lisa bought Chilli crab, Black pepper crab and some other dishes.

Chilli crab is very popular in Singapore. I’ve heard of this dish even before coming to Singapore.
Audrey and Colas both like the black pepper crab but I didn’t like it much. I preferred the Chilli crab.

This seems to be fried mantou. Mantou are Chinese steamed buns with no fillings.
We dipped the mantou in the chilli crab sauce before eating. yummy!

Cereal prawn.

I don’t know the name of this fish dish but it was good.

Fried rice.

The pickled chilli came with the rice but apart from Jeff & me, no one else ate it.
I was almost done eating when I spied another small container of pickled chilli in front of Lisa. I took it.
Yummy.

Some mushroom and broccoli dish.

@ashfaq , I love chilli.
@Jessica, I’m not really a fan of crab but it was good with chilli.
@Zhu, haha it looks much better than the plane food and tasted much better too!
Cereal prawn? Never heard of that dish before? How is it prepared? o_O
I have a real problem when it comes to crab dishes. For me, eating crabs is a messy undertaking, so I always have plenty of napkins or paper towels with me :faint: Sometimes I’m too lazy to crack open the shell so I ask someone to do it for me and then I can enjoy the meat without undergoing all the messy procedures.
@ Angele,
It was my first time eating that dish. haha. Not bad. I heard that it is sometimes called Oat prawn. The prawns are fried in a mixture that includes cereal flakes. (not cornflakes!)
Here’s a recipe that I’ve found online:
CEREAL PRAWNS
Ingredients:
600g prawns
1/2 pieces of butter
Minced garlic (about 2-3 cloves)
200 g of cereal (Nestle Cereal , not cornflakes)
1 chilli padi chopped
3-4 Curry leaves optional
1 tsp of sugar
Seasoning: 1 tsp of salt , 1/2 tsp of sugar, 1 tsp of sesame oil, Dash of pepper
Method:
Clean prawns, leave the shell on. Wipe dry and season in mixture of salt, pepper, a little sesame oil and a little sugar. Deep fry the prawn till 1/2 done , leave aside. In a wok, melt the butter and add in garlic , chilli padi and curry leaves. Fry till there is an aroma. Pour in the cereal and fry for a while. Add in sugar. Then mix in the prawn and fried for about 1-2 mins.

I’m not sure if the recipe above is good or not. I’ve seen other recipes which require egg yolks.
@ Angele,
We don’t have to worry about the mess we are making and no one else can see us making the mess.
I am not very fond of crab dishes because just like you said, it is messy! haha. When we eat at home, it is still okay.
Not many Canadians are courageous enough to eat a fish served whole on a plate. Most restaurants will serve fish fillet.
canadians are courageous enough .. it is the migrants in canada who are not
hahahahhaha lolzz shall we remember the original canadians have american indian origins.. and thus used to eat raw flesh.. including raw fish
@ashfaq
Well, the First Nations, according to what I’ve been told, were from China who walked on iced land to get to Canada
