May 30th, 2009Hanging out after a BBQ

photos, random @ 3:17 pm

I asked the guys if they were okay with me posting their photos and they all said yes but then I forgot to blog about it. Some of the photos are already on my facebook.

The first thing I did after the BBQ was to take a shower. Never have a BBQ during the day in a hot country like Singapore! I was sweating like crazy. argh.
We transferred photos to Kersley’s laptop, talked about the good old days etc. Then Kers started to pack his things. He was taking the plane in a few hours. He was in Singapore for a few days only.
I wanted to try Bryan’s Nikon camera. I found it a tad heavy at first but soon I was happily taking photos of everything in sight. Kers and Di also had fun taking photos with that camera. :)

Pay attention to the photos. I will ask a question at the end of this entry.
====================

Adrian was the only person who let me take many photos of him. The others were moving about too much or they were busy talking to each other.

My family used to buy papayas quite often back in Mauritius but as far as I can remember, I had always hated papayas when I was still in Mauritius. I used to watch my youngest sister eat papayas and I couldn’t understand her love for that fruit. I used to find the smell and taste of papayas disgusting. :faint: Apart from papayas, there was no other fruit that I hated. Then I went off to study in Shanghai and during my 4th & last year there, I bought a papaya one day. I don’t even know why I bought that papaya. To my surprise, it didn’t taste as bad as I remembered it to be. I even drank papaya milkshake once.

I bought 2 papayas a couple of days ago at Fairprice. My first 2 papayas in Singapore! They were S$1.80 each. I felt like buying the papayas because my sisters were both telling me that they have been eating papayas everyday.

The two papayas that I’ve bought. There weren’t many left at Fairprice and I just chose two which seemed okay. I have no idea how to choose a good papaya. :???:

2 papayas-hong kong
These papayas are from Hong Kong? hmm.

2 papayas-hong kong
Photo taken after cutting the papaya in half. I hadn’t removed the seeds yet. According to my sisters, this papaya looks a lot like the Solo papaya that they love because of the orange red color of the flesh. I was like “Solo papaya? What’s that?”. haha

Guess what ? I didn’t have dinner that day and ate one whole papaya by myself. :???: I was sitting in front of the laptop with the two halves of the papaya on a plate in front of me and a spoon while watching a show. I somehow managed to eat both halves. I should have put one half in the fridge. argh.. See the photo where it’s written that it’s from Hong Kong? It’s also written that the net weight is 1.0 kg. Minus away the skin and the seeds, there’s still a lot left. I didn’t eat anything else for dinner. The papaya was more than enough. ah… and it was really good. :D Sweet but not too sweet. I haven’t eaten the other papaya yet. I’m keeping it for the weekend.

I’ve sent the photos to my sisters via MSN and they were surprised that I’ve bought papayas. Not one but two big papayas. They both said that they thought I hated papayas. Yes I did but that was when I was in Mauritius. :P
Hmm.. I can’t think of any fruit that I hate now. I love fruits.

It has been about 1 1/2 weeks since I’ve moved to the new place. In an attempt to cut down on my monthly expenses, I’ve been making my own lunch instead of eating outside. I usually make sandwiches before rushing to revision class but today I had prata, mixed veggies and a green tea & apple drink for lunch.

We usually buy the big packs of roti pratas (30 pcs in one pack) that we keep in the freezer.
It’s not really possible to tell from the pic but a prata is about the size of my hand when my fingers are spread out.
I was only going to make two pratas but that didn’t seem healthy at all. That’s why I cooked some mixed veggies. :P
I had already eaten a piece of the egg before taking this photo. We only have cheese singles in the fridge and that’s what I used on the 2nd prata.

I can’t live without tabasco. haha. This one is the smoked tabasco (it’s written Chipotle tabasco on the main label) and there’s a little left in the bottle. I prefer the original tabasco.
I was feeling very full after eating and I can’t help but wonder how on earth I used to be able to eat two rotis (the big rotis in Mauritius!) back when I was still in Mauritius. A roti in Mauritius is about the size of two roti pratas in Singapore.

I hope that I can really cut down on my expenses. I’ve started to keep a little notebook where I write down everything that I buy and the prices. Eating out all the time is expensive.

It’s dinner time but I don’t feel very hungry. I’m munching on twisties instead.
This one is Hot & Spicy twisties. I didn’t think that the name was appropriate at first but now that I’m halfway through the pack, I feel like drinking some water.

May 21st, 2009Cute kittens

Mauritius, photos @ 4:04 am

These are probably the biggest photos that I’ve ever posted. My photos are usually smaller than these.
One of my sisters sent me the photos that she took of our kittens back in Mauritius. :)

awwwwwwwwwwww .
Cute right? :cloud9:

kittens
This one is my fave because of the ‘mustache’.

There were 6 kittens in all. Unfortunately we are left with only 2 kittens now. My mum gave two of them(one of them was the black one I like!) to someone living nearby and two others (the two who looked very frail) died. :( The remaining two at home are healthy. Our female cat abandoned the kittens when they were born and my sisters took care of the kittens but they still haven’t been able to save all of them.

What I’ve been up to:
Packing, moving, unpacking, cleaning.

boxes
My boxes. The blue and the brown boxes which are all of the same size were shipped from Shanghai a few months ago. I had 16 boxes at that time. I have about 20 boxes in all now. I hadn’t finished packing when I took this photo.

boxes
Colas

boxes
My sports bag and two suitcases. I’m not sure who tied those red ribbons to my sports bag and black suitcase (my mum or dad or little sisters) but I didn’t remove them. The red ribbons make it easier for me to spot my luggage at the airport.

boxes
Colas and Lisa’s boxes.

boxes
Almost all our boxes, suitcases and furniture. I couldn’t get everything in the photo. I took this photo about one hour before the 14ft moving truck came.

I have finished unpacking my things and I have cleaned my new room. I’ll take some photos of our new place soon. :)

Lately, I’ve been taking many photos and also getting photos from friends. Now I have too many things to blog about. (I’ve already uploaded some photos on facebook.)
==============
My cousin Kersley wanted to have a barbecue party on the day he was leaving Singapore. His flight was in the evening and therefore we could only have the barbecue during the day under the scorching sun. I wanted to tan but I felt like my skin was burning. It is really too hot in Singapore sometimes. :???:

Kersley’s thumb got a small cut somehow. Fortunately I had adhesive plasters with me.

Something I’ve just learned…
A friend who has lived in Australia for a few years called barbecue ‘barbie’ .. I was like ‘huh? What barbie are you talking about?’ It turns out that barbie is slang for barbecue. :faint:
