April 10th, 2009Uniqlo in Singapore!

Singapore, photos @ 5:38 pm

Uniqlo is a Japanese brand which I got to know and love when I was studying in Shanghai. The first Uniqlo store in Shanghai was opened way back in 2002. When I first came to Singapore, I was surprised to learn that there was no Uniqlo store here. In fact, I even thought that it was weird. Now Uniqlo has finally opened its first store in Singapore at the new Tampines 1 mall. The grand opening of the mall was yesterday. I met up with Lisa and her colleague during their lunch time. They work at Tampines. (Lucky them!) I wanted to check out the Uniqlo store to see if it was as big and as nice as the ones in Shanghai. I’ve heard that a 2nd Uniqlo store will open at Orchard in a couple of months.

Some information about the new Tampines 1 mall: (source)
Net Floor Area: 260,000 sq ft.
No. of Levels: 5 levels plus 2 basements
No. of Shops: Estimated 172 (6 retail levels)
No. of Carpark Lots: 203 ( Basement 2)

Compared to Jurong Point or Vivocity, Tampines 1 is small. I have no complaints about shopping in Singapore. There are so many shopping malls here and people who get sick of shopping here can easily go to Malaysia or Thailand to do more shopping. That’s my opinion anyway.

I took this photo at the Tampines MRT station.

Once we reached Tampines 1, we went straight to Uniqlo but we didn’t go in the store. There were too many people queuing up to get inside the store.

The queue was very long, all the way to the corridor leading to the toilets.

Me @ 9:12 pm

I’ve been sleeping only 3 – 4 hours everyday since the beginning of this month because I’ve been busy helping my sisters with something. I’m finally done with all that but my body feels very weak. My back aches a lot. I need to rest and I probably need a good massage too (if only I wasn’t so ticklish!). I want to go to bed early but it’s kind of impossible for me to sleep before 1 a.m.

The other day, I went to sleep at 04:30 and about an hour later I woke up. What woke me up was some kind of pressure that I was feeling on my body. I struggled to open my eyes but I was kind of paralyzed. I couldn’t move. I wasn’t dreaming. I knew that I was awake, I knew that the pressure was real. I just couldn’t open my eyes. After a few minutes like that, the pressure was gone and I was able to open my eyes. I looked around, almost expecting to see ’something’ but of course there was nothing. I checked the time and saw that it was a bit past 05:30. I was too tired to think about it and I just went back to sleep. I told Lisa about it the next day and she told me that something similar had happened to her in the past. Like me, she was also very tired when she went to bed.
Anyone with a similar experience and maybe a good explanation?
