April 17th, 2009I won a phone from M1
Back in March, there was a promotion going on for people with M1 prepaid cards. All people who top up at the S.A.M machines get a chance to participate in the lucky draws. I topped up two times during the promotional period. I was running out of credits very fast at that time because of all the international smses and calls that I was making to Mauritius. Topping up at S.A.M machines is really convenient. Last week, someone from M1 phoned me to announce that I’ve won one of the prizes; an LG phone. I was very surprised. Apart from academic awards, I have never won anything in the past. I didn’t think of asking her which phone it was. I just confirmed my personal details and I was told to expect a letter from M1 the following week. I got the letter 2 days ago.

Note: I have blurred out the name and phone number of the contact person in this letter.
Yesterday afternoon I went to collect my phone at :
MobileOne Ltd
10 International Business Park
Singapore 609928
I have never used LG phones before and I have to admit that the thought of buying an LG phone never even crossed my mind. I’m more of a Nokia or Samsung person. *shrugs*
My LG KF510

I’m so glad that I got the dark grey/black one. I didn’t want the red one.

The LG KF510 is a bit longer and wider than my current Samsung E908 but it is way slimmer.
The LG KF510 has touch-sensitive buttons just like my Samsung E908 but my Samsung phone has a few normal buttons in the middle of the navigation area for directions. The navigation for the LG KF510 is slightly more difficult. Having used the Samsung E908 for two years now, I’m already used to this kind of touch-sensitive navigation area and I’m finding the LG KF510 quite nice to use. First-timers will find it a bit difficult to get used to.
The only two complaints that I have about this phone so far :
1. This phone is a fingerprint magnet. Each time I hold this phone in my hands, my fingerprints will be all over it.
2. The OK button is in the middle of the direction buttons and sometimes I end up touching one of the direction buttons when I’m actually trying to touch the OK button. They are so close. This only happens if I use my thumb to press the navigation area. I use my 2nd finger most of the time now.
However, it is also possible to navigate using the keypad. For example, I can just press # in order to go to the settings menu.
the phone arena website. Here’s a snippet:
Instead of buttons or a color display, like in KF600, here we see a touch sensitive area with LEDs, where we have the soft keys, the green receiver, and the “Clear” button. There are no arrows and you’ll have to either run a finger in or just touch the area, pointing at the direction desired in order to scroll.
……………There’s also an option for a vibration feedback (three levels) or a sound, to confirm commands, in case you have difficulties understanding when it happens.
Here’s a photo of my phone:

It feels great to win something.
