April 8th, 2009I felt something pressing down on me
I’ve been sleeping only 3 – 4 hours everyday since the beginning of this month because I’ve been busy helping my sisters with something. I’m finally done with all that but my body feels very weak. My back aches a lot. I need to rest and I probably need a good massage too (if only I wasn’t so ticklish!). I want to go to bed early but it’s kind of impossible for me to sleep before 1 a.m.
The other day, I went to sleep at 04:30 and about an hour later I woke up. What woke me up was some kind of pressure that I was feeling on my body. I struggled to open my eyes but I was kind of paralyzed. I couldn’t move. I wasn’t dreaming. I knew that I was awake, I knew that the pressure was real. I just couldn’t open my eyes. After a few minutes like that, the pressure was gone and I was able to open my eyes. I looked around, almost expecting to see ’something’ but of course there was nothing. I checked the time and saw that it was a bit past 05:30. I was too tired to think about it and I just went back to sleep. I told Lisa about it the next day and she told me that something similar had happened to her in the past. Like me, she was also very tired when she went to bed.
Anyone with a similar experience and maybe a good explanation?

It is either a panick attack or a sign of depression.
I saw your post on the Mauritius Blog List.
you should have a good rest, going to bed at a late hour is really not good!!advice of a good friend:):)
It’s caused by stress as you have not been sleeping properly. in my case I will also suffer from neck ache. In my case doctor call this neck tension. The only solution is to sleep before 1 a.m
Rosemary: thanks!
I haven’t been on MSN at all lately. Talk to you soon!
You should really get some sleep.
Take care and have a good rest.
Bruno, Josh : thanks! I’m glad that you both gave me ‘normal’ explanations. I’ve been hearing stories here and there and those stories are kinda creepy.
morinn: thanks!
I’ll try to go to sleep earlier than usual.
More likely stress… Take your sleep seriously (I know it’s hard when you are busy!) because it is really important to both physical and mental health!
Hehe, my temporary housemate was talking to me last night about ghosts and spirits. And she mentioned that ‘feeling something pressing her down’ syndrome which happened the night following the death of one of her neighbours. So when I saw the title of your post on the RSS feed, I couldn’t help but remember her story.
where did you feel the pressure?
as long as it’s a one off event and it’s not affecting your daily function, then don’t dilly-dally too much on it!
it can just be idiopathic (of unknown origin)…
from the sound of it, you just need to unplug and get some rest…
@ I probably need a good massage too -> i soooo need one as well right now!!!
I’ve heard about that thing before and a lot of people associate such disturbing episodes to creepy ghost stories. But from what I’ve read on the internet, you experienced a sleeping disorder due to stress and lack of sleep. Read this: http://www.castleofspirits.com/sleepparalysis.html
It might help you understand what happened. And don’t freak out
There were no ghost pressing on your body! :faint:
You too. Darn it! I believe it’s a conspiracy. I’ve upped the number of energy drinks and sugar intake. I use ice as painkiller.
How do you feel about increasing your sugar intake and to reduce your room temperature to ~10C? It helps, you know.
Zombies FTW! BBL – lots to do. Take good care of your lovely hair and yourself
P.S
Hope to see you at Coyote Sands. Angela has a shovel waiting for you
are you eating enough fruit and vegetables ?
I agree with the other posters you need more rest
drink more water .. don’t worry so much …
Like what many has told you, lack of sleep usually causes your body to be much weaker *agrees*.Have a minimum of 7 hours of sleep and of course,do some stretching (or rather flexibility) exercises to keep your body in good working condition
how about yoga ? maybe you can join up some gym !
The best medicine is a..*drum beat*…shopping spree!!!! *yay*
Panic attack, I’d say.
This morning I had a dream in which I was so angry (someone got my food order wrong and made me late for work) that I woke up. Pissed.
Eddy.
My best advice is take up a regular sport so that when you have hard physical work to get done, you don’t get super tired. It makes your body slim and full of energy!
And if you can add some fun in it… it all resumes to getting laid regularly
Hmmm… I don’t have the “something pressing down on me” feeling but I have experienced the “can’t wake up” feeling. My alarm rang, I heard it and was going to wake up but I can’t. My eyes are not reacting at all and I can’t open them. It freaked me out. I just laid there for quite some time until my eyes finally decided to open. It was really scary though and only happened a few times when I was really exhausted. The only reason I could come up with was that I was too tired and overworked my body. Perhaps you could take small breaks in between your task?
Do take care.
Happy Easter Aline & Everyone !
Zhu: yes everyone seems to think that it’s because of stress. I am no longer busy now and will sleep more. Hopefully, it won’t happen again.
Raymond: ah.. the ghosts/spirits stories! My friend had a similar experience as me when she was tired & stressed and slept very late but in her case, she heard laughter too. Creepy.
waz: I felt the pressure on my whole body and when I couldn’t move, I tried to open my eyes but I wasn’t able to do that either. Fortunately ,this didn’t happen to me again. *touch wood* Ah… you need a good massage too? I hope that you are not ticklish. =)
Angele: Thanks for the link!
I’ve read everything and I feel better now.
Shah: haha. no, thanks. My sugar intake is fine and I don’t want my room temperature to go below 25 degrees.
I can’t wait to watch the next episode of Heroes!
Dr David: Yes doctor.
I know. Thanks! I’ve stopped thinking about this now.
karl : I think that I have an average of 6 hours of sleep on my non-busy days. I do some stretching exercises from time to time.
I probably need to sleep more and to take vitamins.
Dr David: Yes. That’s a good idea. =) I want to try yoga or pilates. Going alone is not fun. I need to find someone who is interested in going too.
Shah: I went shopping yesterday!
Eddy: aww. I hope that you weren’t in a bad mood all day because of that.
Ti wiwin: =_=
Dayna : Taking small breaks? I’ll try that. Thanks.
I want to try to take small naps in between but I can’t wake up from my so-called ‘nap’.
David: Thanks! Happy Easter to you too. :flowers:
it means the ghost is too fat  !!! hahaha……
anyway, it’s just overtired, nothing else. just throw aside “something sit on top of u” crap. it might happen, but i don’t think so in your case.
Hendrik: haha nice one! too fat indeed.
Yeah I know. Was just too tired.
Sleeping paralysis. A lot of people in singapore encounter this sleeping disorder.
Hello, this was my experience.
http://dead-cockroach.xanga.com/688884767/knock-knock-whos-there/
This just happened to me last night. I was so scared. I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn’t, I felt like I was paralyzed. I felt a pressure pushing down on my body and something said “Get up” in my ear. It couldn’t have been a sibling because my head was facing the wall. I felt my legs and arms go all numb. I told my mom, and she told me to sleep with the door closed. I am about to try tonight.
