March 23rd, 2009Singapore’s Mega Food & Beverage Fair 2009
My Indonesian classmate told me about the Food and Beverage fair (Suntec Singapore Level 4, Halls 403 & 404) and I wanted to see what it was like. He said that maybe they will sell ‘fried durian’ there and that’s why I was so eager to go.
(Unfortunately there was no such thing at the food fair. I was a bit disappointed but I still had fun eating other food.)
I went with Lisa and Colas on Saturday. ![]()
What I think of the Food and Beverage fair : so and so only. There were a few stalls which looked like they didn’t belong there, for example, the manicure stall.
Some photos:
People walking around

People queuing up to buy food

What we ate:
Okonomiyaki, also called the Japanese pizza. This one wasn’t very good. I prefer Desmond’s homemade Okonomiyaki. ![]()

Some kind of takoyaki but with chicken instead of octopus

Fake shark fin soup

Spicy duck tongue. ![]()

I was looking at the duck stall and Lisa said that she had eaten duck tongue before and that it was quite nice. I have never tried this before so I ran off to buy some for Lisa and me. Colas took one look at the duck tongue and said that he didn’t want to try it.
The meaty part is the tongue. It was surprisingly quite good. I probably like it only because it was spicy.
Kebab! ![]()
The kebab was good.

I’m not used to eating kebab like this. Back in Mauritius, we eat kebab in bread. (Can anyone tell me what’s the current price of kebab in Mauritius? The last time I had kebab in Mauritius was 2 years ago. )
Satay.
Colas bought a lot (only half is shown in this photo) and we weren’t able to finish everything. The satay was alright but not particularly nice.

My Singaporean classmate, Ian joined us at this point. Another classmate was supposed to come too but he couldn’t join us in the end.
This is some kind of rice cake that was given with the satay. According to Ian, this was supposed to be eaten with the satay. It was tasteless eaten without satay. I didn’t like it.

Teochew Yam Paste Dessert with Ginkgo Nuts

It was a bit too sweet for me but I like the ginkgo nuts.
We went to Marina Square afterwards and had fondue at Häagen-Dazs. Yummy.

Colas,Lisa,me and my classmate Ian.

Häagen-Dazs fondue!

WOW! A food and beverage fair? That is the wickedest thing ever! I wish we had that. My kind of fair…
The duck tongue, I would have pass on that too  ahaha, way to exotic for me.
You REALLY enjoy food, don’t you?
Eddy.
Dice: I’m the type of person who likes to try all types of food as long as it is not anything too weird.
Eddy: I thought that it was kinda obvious.
Most of the photos that I take are of food.
haha…same here…i felt kinda dissappointed too for the foodfair…
but still enjoy ^^
Duck tongue is not bad, I had it before.
Fondue in Haagen-Dazs? That’s new. Never heard about that before. I am sure there isn’t any fondue here. Is it chocolate sauce?
The last time I had kebab was last year. I like the kebabs at Shabaan snack, Quatre-Bornes. If I remember well, I paid around Rs45-50. This is definitely the best kebab I’ve had in Mru so far
The food fare which was held until yesterday? Was it crowded when you were there? You must have really love food photos
I think I’ll pass on the tongue
It must be fun to sample all the foods. I’d love to go!
A Gloria kebab costs between 45 to 60 depending on the filling (cheese etc)… Hmm, it’s lunch time here and this is making me so damn hungry!
no vegetarian food! :weeping:
and i was told singapore had loads of vegetarian food! :weeping:
btw, is Lisa ur twin sis!?!
SPAM!!!!
SPAM!
lol…
hmmm, something wrong with ur spam filter thingajimmy!
it moderates my actual comment…and not me spam ones!!!
Hp: hopefully next year’s food fair will be better.
Raymond: Yes. Chocolate.
I thought I saw the fondue in Haagen-Dazs (Shanghai) as well. Next time you go to Haagen-Dazs, let me know if you see the fondue on the menu.
Angele: Shabaan snack at Quatre-Bornes? I’ll keep that in mind.
I live in Port Louis. I usually buy near Happy World House. I remember the days when kebab was around Rs30. I think I’ll be shocked by the prices in Mauritius when I go back.
Karl: Yes. That’s the one. I love food.
Zhu: The duck tongue doesn’t look nice but it tastes quite good.
morinn: I forgot all about Gloria kebab. When I was in lower 6 (I think), the rector of QEC had arranged for the Gloria kebab(RH) seller to come to school in his van to sell kebab and ice cream everyday during lunch break. I have no idea why the van stopped coming after a while but it was great while it lasted. I love the chilli that they put on the kebab. Yummy!
Waz: Lisa is not my twin sis. LOL . I couldn’t help laughing when I saw your comment. I know her since my QEC days and she’s like a sister to me.
We look kinda similar in this pic. If I tell people that Lisa is my sister, I’m sure that they will believe me.
There is vegetarian food as well.
Don’t worry. Just come to Singapore.
Waz: Yeah. I have noticed. It’s weird.
Having fun spamming me? -_-
haha sure^^
durian ice-cream~ haha…remember to taste that!
lotsa fun!
k, i will eventually come to Singapore!
i just need some immigration stuff sorted out first…which is taking like forever!
The tongue looks like the fingers in predator… Did the takoyaki taste good? I watched One piece and the takoyaki in the manga looks very different in the pictures.
clive: That takoyaki I had on that day was alright but I’ve had better ones in the past. The ones in my photo look a bit ‘fat’ and were a little bit squashed. Have a look there for other photos of takoyaki.
yeah the film foto is the one i saw in the film. Sounds delicious!
Sorry that should be the first picture…
clive: I have just realized that I have no idea where you are. I hope that you get the opportunity to eat takoyaki one day.
next time you come to dodo land bring some alongside
