March 21st, 2009Lunch at Surabaya Restaurant
Hendrik(from Indonesia) took us to eat Indonesian food at Surabaya Restaurant (Lucky Plaza) the other day. It was my first time going to an Indonesian restaurant and I was really looking forward to it.
Hendrik had this. It was good.
It was the first item on the menu. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of this dish.

Vani and Natasha ordered this. Again, I have no idea what it is. It’s difficult to remember the Indonesian names. ![]()

I had the fried chicken. I wanted to order something else but they didn’t have what I wanted. ![]()
I thought that the fried chicken was a bit dry but I loved the chilli!
Yummy!

This rice was good. ![]()

Kang kong (or is it ‘Kang kung?’ pardon the spelling. I’m not sure how it’s written) . Isn’t this a Malay dish?

Hendrik recommended this drink. I love it! I think it’s called Chendol. I’ll try to find a recipe online.

Hendrik was trying to write my name but there weren’t enough chicken bones.

Photos of my classmates:

When is the next food outing?

hmm, jamais mangé Indonésien. Li plis chinois ou indien? ou both?
that looks really delicious !
The meal look like Ayam Penyet. Sure the sambal is very spicy.
any vegetarian dish?
That first dish looks the best. Reminds me of the popular BBQ chicken in our area.
wiwin : hmmm difficult to describe. Maybe a little bit like Malay food. I’m not sure. You have to try it. =)
David: It was.
Tolanic: I’m not sure what it was. I’ll have to ask my classmate tomorrow.
waz: I didn’t ask about vegetarian dishes but the kang kung was veggies only. They should have other dishes which don’t contain meat.
Shaun: It was my fave dish.
Here are the indonesian names:
1) ayam panggang surabaya
2) gado gado
3) ayam penyet
4) nasi uduk
Hendrik: thanks!
