November 1st, 2007My Canon IXUS 400 is working again!
I thought that my old Canon IXUS 400 would never work again. (ref:R.I.P my dear Canon IXUS 400 ) Not long after I wrote about my camera giving a ‘Memory card error’ and hence no longer working, I came across this blog entry about fixing the ‘Memory card error’ on Canon IXUS 400. Apparently, the problem could solved by opening the camera case and removing the internal battery for a while. According to the Canon website, the ‘Memory card error’ is quite common with the IXUS 400 and they offer free repair service for that kind of problem. The Canon repair shops in Shanghai aren’t near my university. I decided to try fixing the camera myself instead. I didn’t have a screwdriver small enough for the screws on the camera. I couldn’t find any in the supermarkets nearby so I finally bought one online yesterday and received it today.
What I did:
I removed the battery and the memory card from the camera. Then I removed the screws ( I removed 13 screws in all but maybe I removed 2 extra ones because I remember reading somewhere that there are 11 screws to be removed.) , the camera case and the internal battery. After around 30 mins, I put the internal battery back inside and put the camera case and screws back. Unfortunately, I accidentally knocked over one of the screws and it fell on the floor. I still haven’t found it yet but it doesn’t matter much right now because my camera is working again!!!!!
I’ll look for the screw another time.
My bf had lent me his camera and I took a few pics when I was ‘working’ on my camera:

The front. The small round object next to it is the internal battery which was found in the bottom right corner of the camera.

The back.

Here’s everything; the screwdriver, camera, case and screws(not all of the same length) which I had arranged like that so that I would be able to remember which screw came from which part of the camera.

I’m going on a school trip tomorrow in a few hours and I’ll be back on Friday evening. I wasn’t really looking forward to going on the trip because it won’t be fun going without a camera but now that my camera is working again, I’m really looking forward to it. I hope that I’ll manage to wake up in 5 hours. Off to bed now…

See, you worried too much.

Glad it helped and you have your camera working again!
Quote?Coincidentally, while you got your Canon IXUS 400 up and running again, mine just died. In fact, I wrote about it’s ‘death’ a couple of days ago. (Same model, yes. Three and a half years old, though.)
Me getting myself a new camera, because I doubt I am as handy with a screwdriver. I’m likely to screw things up. (Pun intended.)

I also tend to lose screws when doing something like that, I hope it’ll turn up.
Quote?Kenneth: I still haven’t found that screw!! Arghhhh
Quote?Heya.
Did you have any protective gear on when you were unscrewing you camera?
I was doing the same to my Sony DSC-S600. i.e stripping it apart because of some error that kept appearing on the screen.
I just got myself electrocuted BIG TIME, with no batteries in
.
My thumb is still hurting
. I guess I’ll just have to take my sis’s cam then, I left mine as it is in a corner now.

I’ve stripped apart my camera a couple of times by now. I guess that I was lucky. I’ll be careful next time. Thanks for telling me.
