February 4th, 2007Last minute dinner plan
Rosemary, her sis Jennifer and I went to Wumei supermarket today and we saw 3 other Mauritians there. One of them suggested having dinner together and a few hours later, we were sitting at the table in Rosemary’s room.
Rosemary,Joanne and Joelle cooked a few dishes, Jennifer made a salad. I didn’t cook.
I..euh…..bought the strawberries, the Sprite and one of the chicken which I put in the oven once I reached my room. Jean Noel, the only guy among us, was the one who had to wash everything after we finished eating.

Rosemary, Joelle, Joanne, me, Jean Noel, Jennifer

Mushroom and veggies

Roasted Chicken

Chinese sausage from Mauritius. Yummy!
They taste better than the Chinese sausages in Shanghai.

Fried chicken

White fungus soup with chicken and mushrooms. Don’t be put off by the word fungus, it’s really something that can be eaten and it looks alright too. Some info about white fungus there.

The table with all the dishes

Yummy strawberries

Cucumber and pineapple salad
I still feel quite full. I’ll take a shower and then I’ll go to Rosemary’s room again. Since a few days now, we’ve been watching Smallville at night till 2 or 3 a.m . We’ve almost finished watching Season 4.

hi i’m laure marday i used 2 live in beaubassin in mauritius.but my family still...
See, you worried too much.

At least your guy friend didn’t complain about washing the dishes
*eyeing the strawberries*
Quote? They look good! Were they very sweet and juicy?
The strawberries in Mtius are expensive and so small and not worth the price at all
Ah your friends have a mauritian look, are they? I know Rosemarry is.
I like sweeter chinese sausages, mom’s cook always make sweeter ones when am in China. Those on the market are too salty and fat.
Quote?hehe yeah, they were very sweet and juicy.
Strawberries in Mauritius are too expensive but at least mangoes aren’t. Here, mangoes are very expensive and no green ones either.
Quote?hehe yes, all Mauritians.
Quote?hiya!
wow…very delicious looking food! i think its cause i haven’t had dinner yet. haha.
btw, black thing on a plate in the photo was supposed to be chocoloate banana cake. haha. why its so black, i have no idea either. lol.
Quote?the mushroom dish looks so YUMMY!.. even if i could easily do without the veggies
n how come the sliced cucumbers are so green o.O I wouldn’t have guessed they were cucumbers if I haven’t read the note
Quote?Green mango salad with chili…. the best… one mango costs Rs 120 in london, but i still have to buy sometimes as i can’t live without
Strawberries in China seem rather tasty. In UK they look great but taste rather mediocre.
Quote?It always goes like this:
“Hey, let’s do something”
“Yeah, let’s EAT!”
PS: That vehicle is called tram (or street car, in some countries). It’s like a mix between a train/metro/bus.
Quote?tsk tsk , you must eat veggies.Good for you..
That’s because we used English cucumbers. They don’t sell the big yellowish/white cucumbers like in Mauritius here.
Quote? In Shanghai, one mango costs around Rs40,very expensive compared to Mauritius but way cheaper than in UK but however much I crave mangoes, I don’t buy because they are ripe mangoes. I prefer green mangoes. Like you said, green mango salad with chili..yummy .
Quote? And what about ‘jamalak’? I miss it so much, even in Mauritius it is hard to find nowadays. I remember it used to be hard to find it in Singapore as well, even if it actually comes from the Indoneasia/Malaysia areas. ‘A fruit reaching extinction it seems.’
Quote?wow.. you guys really know how to cook! Is that fish sauce with chilis?
and btw, do you guys have Mauritian-radar?
Quote?Food again :O *feels hungry again*
Quote?Well,at least the roasted chicken looks mouth-tempting and the strawberries look really fresh!!
hola!! Long time! How are you? I’ve been just busy and ignored my English blog completely… not sure if I could come back to normal blogging but I’ll pop over here more often. You may want to add me as an MSN contact at mikez_zng@hotmail.com
Take care! ;-)
Quote?I guess that you are talking about the sauce in the small bowl. That’s garlic sauce with green & red chilies. We dip the sliced Chinese sausage in the sauce.
haha, no . No radar but it’s just that Mauritius is such a small country that many Sino-Mauritians know each other.
Quote?I saw them in Carrefour supermarket. A bit expensive( they were in the imported fruits section) and they look euh..a bit strange. A big bigger than the ones I usually see in Mauritius and the color is darker.
