March 30th, 2006One hamster died
Two hours ago, my boyfriend phoned me when I was in class. He usually never calls me in the morning so I ran outside to answer his call. He told me that when he woke up, he saw only one of the hamsters. Upon closer inspection, he found the missing hamster half-buried under the soft wood shavings. It was dead and covered with blood. The other hamster was nibbling on its head. 
Arghh… what happened? They were still okay when I left them at my boyfriend’s place the other day. They were well-fed and in good care. The remaining hamster is the fat one. I don’t know why it’s so fat. Pregnant? or maybe too greedy? Did it kill the other hamster? or did the other one die first (somehow) and then the hamster started eating it?
I never even got around to naming the hamsters.

The other hamster died too.
My friend told me that maybe the hamsters I bought were not in a good health condition. I bought them from someone on the street after all. She advised me to buy from a pets shop instead next time, if there is a next time..
Hmmmm.. let me guess.. I think she’s pregnant? When the female is pregnant, she have to be seperated from the others if not they tend to fight (for mine). Maybe he died in the fight?
Aww.. maybe she’ll give birth to more babies soon? Cheer up.

I have a feeling they fought with each other till one died. The fat one may be the bully type one. Are they of the same gender? Most of the time, I had to seperate my hamsters if they were of same gender…
That sounds disgusting, but also somewhat fascinating. The struggle of life within a 10 inch cage. Maybe we should do an update here

Actually, they used to ‘play around’ sometimes but the hamster which died first was the one which seemed to be the bully, always snatching food from the other hamster.

how did you dispose of their corpses? i use to flush ours away
My bf did it for me.. but he didn’t do such a (cruel) thing… (James, how can you flush your dead hamsters down the toilet?!!)
He wrapped them up in tissue paper and put them in a plastic bag. The plastic bag went into the garbage bin I guess. I’d rather not think about it.
Oh my…this is the 2nd time I’ve heard of this happening. I dun really rmb the first but it was a similar situation where the hamster ate the other hamster.
Nvmlah…i guess the next hamster will probably be from a pet store or are u planning not to buy anymore?
