January 10th, 2006My Christmas 2005 (part 2)
KTV
After the Special Christmas 2005 Show ended, we went to this KTV place near Tongji University. It was only 10 minutes away so we just walked there.
It was rmb 60 per hour for a medium room before midnight but only rmb 20 per hour after midnight.
My friends went up to our medium room on the 11th floor while Des,Wangye and I went to buy drinks at Ke di (i think..or was it All days?). There were a lot of people there that day. (Maybe because it was a Friday?) We bought the drinks and waited for an elevator. That elevator we took was strange. It went up till the 2nd floor, opened and wouldn’t close, a clear sign that the lift was too heavy but the thing is , it went up one floor before it showed signs that it was too heavy and wouldn’t go up. The Chinese people in the elevator (even if most of them got in after us) wouldn’t get out and since Wangye was near the door, he stepped out and we tried to close the elevator door to see if it was matter of weight or if the elevator had broken down. The door still wouldn’t budge. Des and I also got out and then it could close. bah. ![]()
We decided to take the stairs. We climbed all the way to the 11 th floor . The higher we went, the more I was having trouble breathing. I tried not to panick and took long, deep breaths.
I’ve always been like that. I had no problems during the physical education classes at school or the dance classes or majorette practice. It’s just that sometimes, especially during winter, I have some trouble breathing. I asked Wangye and Des to go slowly. By the time we reached the 11th floor, we were all tired but I could finally relax.

note: all pics were taken at the KTV place except for the last one. It is a pic of my classmate,Asif, taken at Subhouse. And me? Bottom left. Pink cheeks because I had some beer. I don’t understand it. Two glasses of beer are enough to make me go red . (but not drunk. No one gets drunk with beer. -_-)
I didn’t sing at all that day. I cannot read many of the Traditional Chinese characters. I’m more used to the Simplified Chinese characters and I never learned Traditional Chinese anyway. Since all the KTV places I’ve been to so far only have Traditional Characters, I never sing. I really should ought to learn a song by heart for the next KTV session. ![]()
My other reason for not singing that day was that HE was there too. He makes me feel so self-conscious sometimes.
We don’t have KTV bars in Mauritius. I still don’t understand why Chinese people like to sing that much. They love KTV.
I’m fine with going there like once a month but that’s it.
Anyway after 3 hours of KTV , we went to Subhouse, a night club on Siping Lu, Liyang lu.
We had friends who were already inside and who got us free tickets from the DJ.

did they introduce you to the dice games?
apparently not, otherwise everyone would be down!
wow looks like a load of fun. too bad u didnt sing … and whos the HE??? ooohh do tell :cloud9:
oooh, karaoke! heh. i make a complete goof out of myself in karaoke bars!
I never had a good stamina either, especially when it comes to climbing stairs. Somehow, it takes a lot more energy than just plain running. My younger (fatter) cusin can manage 19 storeys without a struggle, though. I wonder how he does it. I’m amazed, in fact.
I could never sing. It has the capability of shattering glass! Haha. After having ceased my Chinese lessons for so long, I’ve now become almost Chinese illiterate. :/
Curious… why do KTV places only have Traditional?
Come to think of it… i was in Wuxi at a karaoke place… and I do seem to remember the song list was in Traditional and not traditional..
interesting…
I have no idea. Still, I’ve heard that there are some (very few) KTVS with Simplified Chinese instead.
