It seems like they have finally realised that we think that there are not enough activities which have been organized for us and that we sometimes feel ‘left out’. Whenever we enter the main gate at Siping road and walk near the Chinese students’ buildings, we can see some ads or notices on the boards about some events which are going to take place in Tongji. However, when it comes to our buildings, nothing. The only notices on the board are those about parties or HSK, calligraphy classes. I think that it would be nice if they let us know what’s going on at Tongji. True, some of the international students don’t care about what’s happening at Tongji but many others do.

There’s a soccer tournament going on now and surprisingly, International students have been asked/invited to participate. The International students’ office chose some guys from our faculty to make up a football team and the team members were all given a pair of soccer shoes as well as a tshirt with ‘国际文化交流学院’ written on it.

Some guys didn’t get shoes though and that’s because the shoes didn’t come in sizes big enough for them. awwww.
I noticed that the team against which our faculty has played so far don’t have their faculty’s football t-shirt.

Idriss looking so bored. At that time, the ball was always on the other side. Our goalkeeper was a tad bored and tired of standing.

Shortly after the 4th goal, there was some kind of argument and two players from the opposing team left. One of them had pushed the referee, apparently because he disagreed with the referee’s decision. The referee had given him a yellow card and I suppose the player got angry. His friend also left. bah…. :???:

After the match, just to joke around… autograph time! haha

The next match is tomorrow and we’ll be playing against a strong team this time. Well, that’s what the teachers say. Whatever the outcome, we’ll all have fun; the players on the field and us, cheering them on. yes, 加油!

Strong team! You know what, we had woman’s basketball teams playing against each other during my undergraduate period but no woman’s football matches. Enjoy the game. Cheers!

One key aspect of university life is to have a family-like culture. Such that all faculties and schools of the university are included on all uni-organised events. Your school ought to do more to involve the international students. :S

Ah well, the football game looked exciting! :P

If I hadn’t read anything of what you wrote, and just looked at the pics, I would have thought that it was a soccer match in mu!!!!!!!!(ok, except maybe for the chinese writings on the shirts:P)

That’s true that just by looking at the pictures u’d think that it was being played in Mauritius except for the chinese characters on the shirt and the large amount of chinese playing :p

While I was studying abroad in Japan, I went out of my way to join activities that regular students participated in. It seems that one has to become more pro-active in a place like that, or they don’t put out the effort to include you in their activities.

I have found that this is a common occurance. Whether student or teacher, we foreigners are pretty much just left to ourselves.

I have been teaching at BoHai University for two years, and I have interacted with Chinese teachers only twice. And, it has nothing to do with language.

Of course, with my students, it’s another story. They will come up to us on a constant basis for help with their English. But, that’s not the same… We are more than just monkey’s who teach.

Hah, I have no idea what the Chinese characters mean. Maybe do a hover title thing? :P

Oh, and 5-0 sounds really good, congratulations! I rarely enjoy watching sports, especially football (I’m one o’ those “but it’s the same thing … and it goes on for so longgggg…” people. ^^; )
