Des and I took the 123 bus at People’s Square and we made the big mistake of sitting right in front of this couple. They were flirting and then the young woman asked the guy to talk to her in English instead so that they can practise their spoken English and listening ability. The guy was like “No, no, my English is not good at all” (in Chinese) and the woman kept insisting. I tried to block out their voices and the next thing I knew, they had started to sing ‘Yesterday once more’ , a song by The Carpenters. I love that song but WHY did they have to talk and sing so loudly? We were on a bus after all. Did they think that everyone would like their singing and wanted to know what they were talking about? arghhhh. :???: Des was more annoyed than me and was muttering ” Oh shut up” but they were lost in their own little world.
The worse part was the phone call. The guy’s cellphone rang and he answered promptly, talking so loudly that everyone on the bus could hear. Maybe he was just showing off? He was saying something about a meeting, things work-related, trying to sound like a big boss or something. bah….
Some people talk on the phone like they think the person they are talking to is deaf or something. It really gets to me. I don’t mind the couples making out on the bus, whispering and giggling but I can’t stand loud people. They want to talk? Fine. In a normal tone of voice please.

 It is so strange when people are so loud in public, everyone listens to them and what they say because you can not not listen cause they are so loud.

I agree. The bus is always the worst place for that too. I remember one charming old guy in particular, who insisted on yelling “wei, wei, wei” at the top of his lungs for about five minutes straight. I finally turned around and told him(in Chinese) “Dude, they can’t hear, and now thanks to you, neither can we.” Everybody else thought it was funny even if he didn’t.

i hate it a lot too. it’s SO irritating. another common place for them to do it is in the lrt. it’s like they really want the whole world to know what they’ve been up to and what’s been going on in their lives. geez. ear-sore.:faint:

I hate that to. Usually, I’m on the bus to go to school or when I’m going home. I like to do work on the bus, but when people talk that loud, it really hard to get some work done.

wil, good to see you blog again!

That’s a webcam capture taken during my summer hols in Mauritius. During the first month of summer in Shanghai, it was so hot that I always went out with an umbrella and sunscreen on. I suppose that’s why I became quite fair at that time.
Still, after my hols in MU and now back to Shanghai and going out without my umbrella, I put on some color. I’ll be changing that profile pic of mine soon. :)

When I first arrived in China, I thought everyone was having an argument with the person they were talking to. I understand now, that it does have a lot to do with language, but… not THAT much to do with language.

I DISPISE the screaming on mobile/cell phones. I was in a net bad in DanDong a few months back, and this couple, about my age (I was going to say “older couple”, but I didn’t want to AGE myself) sat down. Immediatly, the lady started screaming into her phone. I could not concentrate, so I decided to just annoy the hell out of them both by hotboxing a cigarette. I had enough smoke in there to run them off. (I know, nasty habit, but I am trying to quit).

Oh, and another thing, CHINESE PEOPLE SHOULD STOP SINGING THAT SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha I now understand why it is so popular, it is slow and easy to understand… I liked it… back when it came out (ok, I am showing my age), but it is really starting to annoy me here.

I think it’s a culture thing, how can those other chinese people stand the yelling of one person? they’re used to it or they just dont pay attention… just like how one guy could getting beaten up in the middle of a crowded area and no one would help him, people just mind their business here in China, that’s what I like, no one trying to play super hero :)

Aline, trouver, toisi to ene pak cham kei! HAHAHAH!!!
