September 30th, 2005Toi et moi

T_T @ 8:23 pm

J’ai cru en ‘nous’. Je voudrai toujours y croire mais … peut-être que ce serait stupide de ma part.
Mon coeur se brise petit à petit.

When we are kids and get hurt, for example, when we get a big bump on the head after falling down, maybe our parents or someone close to us would say something like ‘Let me kiss it and make it feel better’ . Now I’m hurt. Can you kiss it and make me feel better? One kiss won’t be enough. It hurts too much. Please make me feel better. Please tell me that it’s just a bad dream.

Note: It took me almost one week to finish writing this blog entry. Well, I fell sick and have been coughing like crazy and occasionally gasping for breath during the last few days. I also didn’t go to class for two days. I’m feeling better now but I’ve got this annoying phlegm stuck in my throat and I need to blow my nose every hour or so.

Shanghai Golden Grand Prix 2005

Last Wednesday, the teachers asked us (those majoring in Chinese language) if we were interested to attend a sports event on Saturday night. Only 9 persons from each class could go. We were not given much information about the event but were told that many famous athletes would be there.
So, last Saturday (17th Sept) , I went to the Shanghai Stadium along with 43 other people from Tongji University.
We went in the bus provided by the university and each person got a ‘goodie’ bag containing 4 pastries from Croissant de France and a bottle of water. Our tickets cost rmb 80 each. I suppose there are better seats than the ones we got, but we didn’t pay for anything so we can’t really complain.

We arrived a bit late because of the traffic jam and missed the Opening ceremony. :( We arrived in time for this:
some kind of concert
The 4 gals in red were playing some kind of percussion instrument. a drum..but which one? hmm.. I wonder how that instrument is called in chinese. I didn’t pay much attention to the commentator. :(
I manage to identify the two big red and white drums near the gals as Tanggu according to this.

The most popular event was the 110m hurdles. I wasn’t surprised at that. There was three false starts and if I’m not mistaken, one of the guys got disqualified because he was responsible for two of the false starts.
Anyway, Liu xiang won with a time of 13.05 secs. I still remember his time because they showed it on the e-board for like 5-10mins and it was the last event.

Rosemary’s classmate said that Johnson let Liu xiang win. He said that Shanghai is Liu xiang’s hometown and that he just had to win. Before entering the stadium, we saw that Liu xiang’s posters were plastered everywhere and I also heard that he was in some commercial or other after he won in the last Olympics. Anyway, I don’t really agree with Rosemary’s classmate. True, I couldn’t see much from where I was but I think Liu xiang won fair and square. He trained a lot. It would be unfair to say that Johnson let him win.

September 16th, 2005aline’s 21st Birthday

Me, food, photos @ 2:50 pm

Some updates about my birthday and the day after.
I did some window-shopping near Fuzhou road and People’s Square. We went to Raffles City and I managed to take only one pic before one of the security persons working there approached and told me that we were not allowed to take pics in the building. So strange.. It’s only a mall. I went there a few times before and also took pics. bah.. *shrugs*

September 9th, 2005Happy 21 st Birthday to me

Me @ 12:15 am

I’ve been back to Shanghai since Monday but I’ve been a bit busy since.

Right now it’s a few minutes after midnight and I’m not asleep yet. I’m 21 years old as from today.
wah.. Time flies. It seems like just yesterday that I was still going to primary school. Anyway, no birthday party for me today. I never had a birthday party at home before anyway. Not really my thing. It’s usually just dinner with my family or friends. A very memorable year had been 1999. I celebrated my birthday with my school friends at school during lunch break. They surprised me with a birthday cake and many gifts. I even gave a speech that day. I think I stood on the chair for that. Anyway, the cake was great and the party ended in a ‘food fight’ . It was all for fun anyway. The teachers were really cool about the whole thing . We cleaned up afterwards of course.
I won’t be doing anything special today but I can tell that today will be a lovely day.

September 4th, 2005Leaving Mauritius this evening

Mauritius, Me @ 12:55 pm

So the day has finally arrived. I was looking forward to going back to Shanghai during my very first days back to Mauritius but now, I kinda wish I can stay one more week. I still have so many things I didn’t get to do and so many friends I didn’t get to meet. I plan to go back to Mauritius again in 2008. Hopefully, I’ll be seeing those friends who are studying in SG, UK and CA before that.
I started packing last week but I’m still not done. So far, I have a small suitcase, a backpack and a big suitcase. I have one more suitcase or sports bag(still haven’t decided which one) to pack. arghh… and I’m going to do some last minute shopping later. I need to go get a few things for a friend who hasn’t gone back to Mauritius since 1999 or 2000.

I’ll be posting some pics when I get back to Shanghai. I won’t have time to resize them now. I’ll reach Shanghai on Monday evening.
