I wrote about the fish tank some time ago. Well , the fish are my sister’s. Still, since I’m the one who wakes up early, I feed the fish if I’m at home. ( I go stay at my friend’s place sometimes. )
Recently, one of the fish started swimming upside down. It’s still like this now.
See the pic:

Fish upside down

ah.. poor little fish.
I have no idea why it is like this now. Maybe it got injured? Still, one thing I’m sure of is that the fish is still alive. It can swim to the top or anywhere it wants and it can still eat.

The fish was still upside down. It just stayed at the bottom of the tank without moving much during the last few days, seemed to have stopped eating and died today.

i’ve had fish before and when they start swimming/floating upside down, it usually means…they’re dying :faint: there’s no easy way to break it to u  It’s swimming like that coz it’s head is the heaviest & it’s too weak/has not enough energy to swim properly. Occasionally, it’ll have spurts of energy and swim for food or to the top as u mentioned. i hope i’m wrong…but…fish owner to fish owner…

Fish are known to improve mental health. Once, when I was really down, alone and shattered, my Fish kept me company.

One of my fish did that; it has to do with the swim bladder and your feeding it too much! Starve it for a week (believe me, it won’t die) and it should get better.

My thoughts… Your fish needs to wear a helmet and start riding the short bus to school. Ritalin, start feeding it some immediatly.

On the OFF CHANCE that I am wrong, you might want to read these.

That last one even has a section called “Poop Diagnosis”… Man, that has got to be an interesting read.

In most cases, fishes that start swimming upside down die within a few days. Perhaps getting some advice from your loval veterinarian or fish store and purchasing some medication will help. In the meantime, isolate that fish from the rest of the fishes because it may be contagious.

    Get well soon, little fish!

There is still hope my fish had the same problem, and it lived. :) Just help it out by using a net to flip it back every once and a while and also feed it frozen peas no flakes or pelets. I would advise you put it in a smaller self centainable tank. Last don’t put a filter or an airirater in. Just trying to help…

Everyone, please read Lexi’s comment (Comment No. 12) . My friend took his advice except for the frozen peas part . She gave the fish less food than usual instead. Fortunately for her and her fish, it worked. It might not work for everyone else’s fish but at least it’s worth trying this method.

My fish is going through the same thing. My fish is named shnart. he is a moore, [ black with big eyes ]. I recently called petsmart. if you fish has dots, and they look like glitter, he has ick. It’s no problem HURY and get treatment. Also, it could be from sprinkling food on top, he could be taking in air, and now has air in him. From now on, put you fingers in the water, then release your food.
    Hope for the best.

The fish isnt dying, it just means that something is wrong with the float bladder. Mine has been like it a few times, and usually it does get over it and end up normal but i am going to try feeding it spinach or even try a tiny bit of alcohol. I’m sure sure though. Ask a vet or something

 It’s not going to die i HOPE i have a gold fish his name is Quop n he has a companion Lina. But anyways he has been floating upside down for 6 weeks now. -___- I’ve come on this website to get help. And its surely not contagious cuz Lina is FINE. But Im goin to try the pea thing. :) do i crush them up? My goldfish are small. :???:

  • 29
    aline

@ fishloverr: I didn’t try the pea method and I don’t know if it works but what I can tell you for sure is that if you want to try the pea method (as mentioned by Lexi, comment number 12), you’ll have to crush the peas first. Peas are too big for fish.

to many ppl posted for me to bother reading but if you simply google fish swimming upside down, you’d find out its due to gas in teh goldfish and it can be cured by feeding it some slightly different foods ie brine shrimp green peas spinach.

I have a 6 year old Irredesent shark that is struggling in the bottom of my tank. He’s seems to want to eat but keeps floating upside down. I’m pretty sure he’s dying of old age but he’s been trying to swim around for the last 12+ hours. Is there anything I can do?
