December 27th, 2004My First Christmas in Shanghai
*Sneezes* *blows nose* Yeah I’m ill again.
I’ve kinda disappeared from the online world. Less msn chat, less emails, less blogging. I’ve been busy lately.
Happily busy.
On Christmas Day, we went to Zoom (Korean restaurant) for dinner and then to ‘Sky Bar’. I’m not sure about the name. I didn’t really pay attention. It’s some kind of night club with a dance floor and karaoke rooms too. The guys wanted to dance and they were the first to hit the dance floor while the gals just sat there and had a drink first. After trying one of those Korean drinks (i think it was Korean Bai jiu) at Zoom, I didn’t feel like drinking. I just had some tea to ‘wash away’ that taste in my mouth. Anyway we went downstairs to join the guys after a while. I didn’t like the music and stopped dancing after a few songs.
Still ,I had a lovely time, especially when we were at Zoom. Some of the guys were so funny. I laughed so much that my stomach hurt.
By the end of the evening I was dead tired and had a terrible headache. I don’t like going out when I’m ill but spending Christmas Day in bed didn’t appeal to me.
I also celebrated on the eve with my classmates and two of my teachers. No one wanted to have class on that day so I sugggested to the main teacher that we do some kind of Xmas activity in class. She agreed. My classmates and I went shopping for some snacks, drinks and ordered a cake on Thursday. On Friday morning, Jia chong and I went to fetch the cake. It was very cold in the morning. Brrrrrr. I had to wear layers and layers of clothes, a big coat, my gloves and my hat.
The cake was yummy.

Not many people in our class. So sad. The teachers tell us that there will be new students soon. I hope so.
Jia chong and I sang some of Deng lijun’s songs and were later joined by Pushala and Ahmina.

We ate, dance, sang and took many pics.
I really enjoyed the extra performances (oriental dances, African songs, Bulgarian songs and dance). We also listened to the music and songs from the different countries. Good thing I got some Mauritian songs some time ago. (thanks James!) I put them all on a Cd and my classmates were able to listen to some of our Mauritian songs.
I also received many Christmas cards last week, many of which were quite unexpected. I’m going to write Thank you cards this week, as soon as I feel well enough to go to the post office.
Another thing which made my week was a phone call from Mauritius. Awww. Thanks Sky! (not the Sky bar but a person’s name.
) Apart from my parents and sisters, he’s the only friend who phones me from Mauritius from time to time.
Now I just hope that I’m no longer sick before the end of this year. ![]()
