November 8th, 2004Food in Shanghai
James wanted to see some pics of food so here are some:
生煎(sheng jian)and 红豆莲子冰豆浆(hong dou lian zi bing dou jiang) which I had for breakfast at 新亚大包(xin ya da bao) during my first week in Shanghai.

sheng jian are a bit like small 包子(bao zi, stuffed buns) except they are cooked in a different way. As you can see from the photo, the bottom of the shen jian are fried.
Dinner with almost all the Mauritian students in Shanghai. I forgot the name of the restaurant.

You can’t really see the food in this pic but the food was great.
I bought some chocolate cake last week. I loved the rich chocolate taste. yummy:laugh: I will buy more next time I go to Zhengming Road. Thinking about chocolate cake reminds me of the cake my little sister once baked. -sigh- Her cake looked great too!

Talking about food reminds me that I haven’t had dinner yet.
Dinner… then I’m going to hit the gym. I took on a few pounds (3 or 4) ever since I came here. ![]()
It’s just that the portions here are bigger than what I’m used to. Now, I’m back to my usual eating habits and hopefully going back to my normal weight in less than a month. I love food too much. I can’t and don’t want to lose more than those few extra pounds. ![]()

Mmm.. that looks so delicious, especially the chocolate cake
I’m glad that you’re doing good!!
哇!死人头!:P 为什么要在第一线写我的名字? 我们个个都想看上海采吗!
Ah! al la chine pwal manz kake ek boire dilai + boul la farine!, pa manz shanghainese food?
I’ll write a proper reply to your comment when i wake up. Have to go to bed now. For your info, these are what some Shanghainese people have for breakfast. You made me laugh.
Will post more pics later.
:flowers:
Mmm, that looks so good! Oh, thanks for changing the link, by the way.
omg, you totally made me drool while looking at yoru blog.
foooood ! YuM!
i heard that the dining room in TJ university is the best in Shanghai, it seems indeed.
you’ll regret if you miss 锅贴guotie (fried jiaozi), that’s sth superb!
When you reach Shanghai, you can come to Tongji university and eat there. No one will know that you are not a Tongji student:)
锅贴 ?oh.. so that’s what it’s called. I already ate it. It’s good…
4 for 1.50 kuai in the International students dining room.
ahh.. and the second pic was taken in a restaurant, not the dining room in Tongji. I haven’t taken a pic of the dining room in Tongji yet.
i ate a breakfast there once, my friend used to study there. It’s 10 for NZ$7 = 39 Kuai in the university here…..:worried: totally ripped off…
hmm..the cakes look pretty good. i want some too!
nice bunch of happy people too
Aline, am so sorry to bother you with this again, but my url has changed to http://chomp.chollha.com I had to change it because my old journal just stopped working. So sorry!
ooooh, yummy food =) looks like you’ve adjusted well to shanghai life. hehe. i actually installed kitty’s spaminator plugin to get rid of the spam comments. it has worked well so far. tc aline!
hey, sorry tis taken me like TWO whole months to reply to you in shape or form… things have been rather hectic since Australia & Hong Kong. Anyway, thanks for the kind words you left on my site… ive since added yours to a new link project ive started: http://www.marknam.com/links.html. Keep in touch, i think your words and pictures are beautiful.
what are you talking about?!:confusion:
I never said that the food was free. I only said that you don’t need to be a student of my university to eat in the dining room/canteen. They don’t ask for student ID there and I’ve seen many Tongji visitors eat there. Everyone has to pay for his/her food of course.
I also said that 4 锅贴 cost 1.50 kuai. How come you thought I said the food was free?
doh!:laughing::laughing:
Oh aline stop teasing me, I am so hungry right now.
I miss so much those delicious juicy ShengJianBao. I used to eat them for breakfast all the time when I was in ShangHai.
If you could, could you mail some fresh one to here? Hahaha, I am so hungry now, it is all your fault! hehehe …
hehe then come back to SH
I will post more pics of food soon.
