September 16th, 2004No laptop yet
I haven’t bought a laptop yet.
I haven’t seen any computer stores near my university. I’ll try to go to Wu jiao chang asap. I’ve heard that there’s a computer store around there. I don’t like having to use the computer on the campus. I’ve been to the two computer rooms here. One is a big strange. It’s kinda in the underground. I don’t know how to describe it exactly but anyway, it’s a bit dark there. I’m in the other one today and it’s my first time here. Guess what i have to wear? Blue plastic bags. Not as clothes… but on my feet. I think it’s like this here because they don’t want the students to dirty the floor. Fortunately we are allowed to keep our shoes on but still, it feels weird.
I’m still living alone.
According to that list I’ve seen, I’m supposed to share a room with a girl who’s from Thailand. However she still hasn’t arrived yet and now I doubt that she’ll even come. Classes have started since Monday 13th and she still hasn’t showed up. I have no idea what happened to her.
My birthday……
I turned 20 last week on the 9th Sept. I got early birthday gifts before I left Mauritius and I wasn’t expecting any in Shanghai(at least not this year) but I got presents from Joanne and Rosemary.
I can’t stay online for long.
I really need to buy a laptop asap. I’d rather go online from my own room.

Blue plastic bags are for hygiene purpose – help stop SARS
How would you get online once you’ve got your laptop? are there wi-fi around?
So how’s shanghai?
Depending on where you are in Shanghai, you could also try 美罗城 (mei luocheng) and 太平洋数码广场 (taipingyang shuma guangchang) in Xujiahui, or Hong Kong Plaza on Huaihai Zhong Rd.
Oohh from Thailand.. How strange that she haven’t arrived yet O.o
Anyway, I hope that you’ll get your laptop soon! And here’s another belated happy birthday ^^ Yay!!
In addition to what Brad already said, there is a brand new computer mall with many bargains to attract customers at the south-side of Zhaojiabang Road, just a 500 meters east of the main square there.
Welcome to communism!
Seriously, hope you enjoy your time there. Planning on going to China next year, but first I’ll have to learn mandarin!
that’s still cool that your bday is right after mine  wish i could go laptop shopping with you; i want a new one as well. that’s kinda cool that you have a room by yourself… i wouldn’t mind the space, but yeah, i might feel kinda strange.

Surely you mean capitalism, not communism, Eddy
.
If you can, go for a Sony TR or even better would be the X505. They probably have the worst performace-value ratio, but they look amazing.
i just sold my sony viao laptop to my nephew. i didn’t have much use for it but it was very handy when i go somewhere and need to take it with me.
ahh well. good luck hunting for one! and happy belated birthday!

i’ll be attending jiaotong(i think that’s the correct spelling) university in a month. BTW, i’m just a frequent visitor to your site.
